Day 55: Chestnut Mews complete & a visit from DECC

The final commissioning of the 30 flats in Chestnut Mews happened today, witnessed by a visit by Lord Bourne of the Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC).

All of the flats’ individual ground source heat pumps are now fully operational. It is great to hear that some residents on key meters have already noticed a saving in energy consumption!

This week there is now a planned break in the installation schedule to undertake any snagging. During the course of the installation, John Constable, Senior Clark of Works from Trent & Dove Housing, visited the site every day to sign off on the works. To ensure the project is finished to Trent & Dove Housing’s high standards and to ensure tenant satisfcation, we have allowed a week between ending Chestnut Mews and starting Aspen Mews to get these minor issues put to bed.

Operatives from Geo Drill have been pressure washing all of the paths around the site, making sure the site is as we found it prior to drilling operations commencing – and now you can hardly see where we have been! See the pictures below:

Project in a nutshell

  • Design and install communal ground source heat pump systems into two blocks of three-storey flats
  • Drill 40 boreholes to an average depth of 140m
  • Manifold the boreholes to 12 individual ground arrays
  • Trench back to the 60 flats
  • Remove old inefficient night store heaters and hot water cylinder
  • Replace with a Kensa Shoebox 6kW, a highly efficient hot water cylinder and a wet radiator system
  • Install thermostatic and time controls to allow total control for residents with individual heat requirements
