Your Savings & Costs

Running cost savings

Ground source heat pump installation costs in retrofit social housing are offset by the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), low running costs & lifetime ownership costs.

With rising energy costs becoming a mainstream issue, there is a growing need for social housing providers to ensure replacement heating systems deliver the lowest possible running costs.

Ground source heat pumps, as recognised by the Energy Savings Trust, provide the lowest cost heating and hot water solution.

Fitted with an accompanying new radiator system and hot water cylinder, a Kensa ground source heat pump retrofitted to an existing property will produce around three kilowatt hours of heat for each kilowatt hour of electricity it consumes, meaning running costs are consistent with mains gas.

Estimated total heating and hot water costs for a property with demand of 10,000kWh/yr

Gas (85% efficient)LPG (85% efficient)Oil (85% efficient)Night Storage (100% efficient)ASHP (250% efficient)GSHP (320% efficient)

In addition, tenants who switch away from night storage heaters and the associated off peak electricity tariff will also benefit from lower cost day rate energy useage (for which they pay a premium using an off peak tariff). This means tenants will also benefit from lower appliance, lighting and other general electricity usage costs.

Ownership Costs

While tenants will enjoy the benefit of low running costs, landlords will also appreciate low service and maintenance costs especially as the appliance can be easily accessed given its typical location outside the dwelling.

Protected either within the property itself – using Kensa’s unique Shoebox heat pump – or if externally located, within a weather-proof shelter, the heat pump can be expected to provide a service life of at least 20 years.

Once installed, the borehole will remain in place for the lifetime of the building.

And because there is no fuel combustion, heat pumps require no annual safety inspection; while unlike some air source heat pumps, Kensa heat pumps are fully factory sealed meaning they require no annual F Gas inspection.

As such, lifetime ownership costs are far lower than any other technology, a benefit that can will accrue to the landlord

We have already received glowing praise from our customers regarding the real savings they are making on their electricity bills since the ground source heat pumps have been installed.

I’m now spending less on my whole house heating as I was on one electric heater previously!
